the angels are too

I was trying for those golden wings, they look shiny and new

Now I've been borrowing rides

sleeping on floors

My independence can't afford to be so proud anymore

I've been incurring more debt than I can ever repay

it's been hard giving up wings for these needful feet of clay



I have always found it safer to give than receive

if I ask nothing of you

But you never quite go home

you start waking up tired

What rises above cannot reach out to hold

what is reaching to rise, bruising itself

needing angles, needing money

needing heaven, needing help
